Black tears stream down my blank cheeks.
I feel weakness, a buckling at the knees.
Our lost society wanders and seeks,
Happiness through material ease.
Who are you to lay down this foundation?
You ask the stars to bow down to you.
Who are you to divide this nation?
You ask the moon to praise you.
You want all shapes and sizes
To fall asleep under a small willow tree.
You want me to be one of your prizes,
But in order to do so, I can’t be me.
As I leave my values behind,
As I leave my passions behind,
I follow you, trailing behind,
I just had a thought, never mind.
